The Dyson V8 package reviewed here is the standard Silver/Nickel model, not the V8 Absolute, V8 Extra, or newer V8 Cyclone + Car Cleaning Kit. Its central advantage is a simple mixed-floor setup: one supplied Motorbar head is described for hard floors and carpet, and the vacuum lifts off the wand for smaller jobs. Consider it for short, regular cleaning rounds where avoiding a head change matters more than having a large bin, a floor light, or an automatic-emptying base.
One Motorbar head handles the ordinary floor route
Dyson lists one Motorbar head in this package. The brush bar's hair-removal vanes are designed to lift wrapped hair and send it toward the bin, and the manufacturer describes the head for cleaning across floor types. That gives a straightforward route through hard flooring and carpet with one attachment. The trade is that the standard box does not include a separate soft-roller head for someone who prefers a dedicated hard-floor tool. Nor does this floor head illuminate dust; the V8 should not be selected for an essential hard-floor Reveal or Fluffy Optic light.
The product page specifies up to 115 air watts and up to 40 minutes of runtime. These are Dyson's published figures, not independent measurements or a guarantee that the powered head will run for 40 minutes in every mode. The linked V8 manual shows up to 25 minutes with a motorized head in the ordinary mode and up to seven minutes in MAX. Plan a route around the useful work you can finish, not the headline maximum: a few rooms and stairs may be a sensible session, while a large home, thick carpet, and frequent MAX use can call for a second battery or a larger-capacity alternative. No spare battery is listed in this package.
The standard box is useful but deliberately modest
The manufacturer's V8 listing names a Motorbar head, Hair Screw tool, Combination tool, Crevice tool, charger, and wall-mounted docking station. The Hair Screw tool has a motor-driven conical brush for small spaces and hair; it is a powered compact attachment, not a floor head. The Crevice tool reaches narrow gaps, while the Combination tool switches between its brush and nozzle. Those two separate tools are not the special two-in-one crevice-and-dusting tool in this guide's tool filter. The Hair Screw tool is also not a named Pet Multi-Tool, even though Dyson describes it as useful for long hair and pet hair.
Compared with the standard V8, the V8 Extra adds a flexible Extension hose and several above-floor tools, including a Fabric and mattress tool and an Up-top adaptor. Choose that package if these attachments solve real jobs in your home; the standard version is less to store when they would sit unused. The V8 Absolute takes a different approach by adding a separate Fluffy head for hard floors. That extra head is not an illuminated dust head, and it has to be changed for the Motorbar route across mixed flooring.
Manual emptying, trigger control, and upkeep
The published bin is 0.14 US gallon, or about 0.56 quart using the nominal gallon conversion. Treat that as a small collection volume: long sessions with shedding pets can make emptying the limiting step before the battery is flat. Dyson's point-and-shoot emptying ejects debris from the clear bin, but it is still a manual job. The wall docking station charges and stores the vacuum; it is not a self-emptying base or a floor-standing tool rack.
This V8 uses a trigger rather than a button-only run control. The manual depicts the on-trigger operation and two power modes, so a shopper who needs to clean without continuously holding a trigger should look at a button-operated alternative such as the V12 Detect Slim. Dyson's page lists a five-hour charge time. The owner's guide also calls for washing the filter and leaving it to dry completely for at least 24 hours; keep the machine out of wet pickup, which the manual prohibits.
What the specifications do not settle
Dyson lists a 5.58-pound weight and a 9.84-inch width, but the V8 page does not state the precise assembly represented by each table dimension. Do not use those figures as a strict promise that a fully assembled floor-ready stick meets a personal carry-weight or head-clearance limit. The listing's filtration text includes a whole-machine claim and a particle-size statement; other V8 marketing panels describe the particle threshold differently by mode. Treat this as a manufacturer filtration claim, not a health result.
The standard V8 is a fit when one mixed-floor head, a powered small Hair Screw tool, manual emptying, and a wall dock line up with a short-repeat cleaning routine. It is a weaker choice when you need a hard-floor light, an automatic base, a larger bin, a floor-standing rack, a strict confirmed carry weight, or a bundle with dedicated mattress and reach tools. For those requirements, compare the exact packages rather than buying by the shared V8 family name.
