Shark PowerDetect Speed IA1241 review: a narrower standalone route through mixed floors

The IA1241 is the standalone PowerDetect Speed configuration. It combines a narrower published cleaning path with a MultiFlex wand and a detachable handheld body, while leaving automatic waste transfer out of the supplied package. It is worth considering when the usual route winds through furniture and you prefer a charging cord to a larger collection station. Its specific floor head, tools and detection functions should be assessed on their own terms rather than borrowed from the larger DuoClean PowerDetect models.

A different size and floor-head format

Shark lists an 8.3-inch cleaning path and a 7.1-pound assembled weight for this exact standalone machine. Those figures provide a useful contrast with the 10.2-inch path and 8.11-pound table for IP1251. A narrower nozzle may suit spaces between furniture, although it can require more passes in an open room. Make the comparison using the space you actually clean most often rather than assuming that wider or lighter always wins.

The Speed head is described as TurboPro Detect, rather than the two-roller DuoClean Detect arrangement of the larger family. It supports a mixed-floor cleaning route. Its named detection functions concern dirt, floor type and direction; the fourth edge-detection function of the larger PowerDetect is not part of this specification. That distinction matters when a buyer is explicitly comparing sensing features, but it does not make an edge impossible to clean. It means you should plan normal guided passes and the appropriate narrow tool.

What the flexible wand can contribute

MultiFlex bends the wand to reach below furniture and changes the stored shape. Use it where there is a clear route under the furniture rather than treating the joint as a promise of universal access. A low support bar, thick cable bundle or inaccessible corner can still require another approach. Check the floor head's physical clearance and the route you intend to guide it through.

The removable hand vacuum is listed at 3.5 pounds. That is a separate working configuration from the 7.1-pound stick, and an attachment changes how a handheld job feels. Someone who plans frequent shelf or stair cleaning should consider both configurations. Carrying the complete vacuum between levels and directing the hand unit toward a high surface place different demands on the arm.

The supplied tools keep the package simple

The current box lists a crevice tool, upholstery tool and battery charging cord. The upholstery attachment is not a confirmed motorized mini brush, and the box does not supply an auto-empty station. If either feature is essential, choose an exact package that documents it or confirm an appropriate accessory separately. The Speed name by itself cannot establish compatibility or the contents of a different retailer bundle.

The nominal onboard dust cup is 0.5 US quart, smaller than the 0.7-quart exact-model table for IP1251. For hair-heavy work, consider the number of emptying stops as well as the stick's size. A smaller vacuum can be a good daily tool when you are happy to empty it frequently. It becomes less convenient when avoiding contact with collected waste is the main reason you are changing machines.

Battery and light claims need their conditions

The advertised maximum is up to 60 minutes in Eco mode with a non-motorized tool at the hand vacuum. A powered-floor session is a different load. The stated six-hour charging time makes a convenient place to return the machine useful, particularly if several people share it. Keep expectations tied to your actual route, mode choices and debris rather than a maximum-runtime headline.

The current comparison marks IA1241 as lacking the blue dust-revealing illumination supplied with IA3241. Do not assume every Speed package gains that feature. HEPA filtration is specified, with normal filter, dust-cup and brush care still required. Choose IA1241 for a narrower mixed-floor head, confirmed standalone weight and a flexible wand when manual emptying suits you. Choose the docked Speed package when the station and Reveal light are the changes you want most.
